Biography

Dr Varaprasad earned his Ph.D. in 1979 from IIT Bombay on Piezoelectric SONAR Technology followed by 3 years of Post Doctoral research experience at Microelectronics & Electrical Engineering Department of Trinity College Dublin, Ireland. Dr Varaprasad is a reputed DRDO Scientist with 3 decades of experience in the field of Missile Technology at Research Centre Imarat / RCI, Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Missile Complex, Hyderabad. RCI is the brain child of Dr APJ Abdul Kalam and specialises on Avionics, Navigation systems, Control systems, Radar Systems for Agni, Prithvi, Dhanush and Air Defence/AD Missiles. Dr Varaprasad served as Head of Micro Electro Mechanical Systems / MEMS. His works include MEMS and Nano-sensors for Navigation, Gyros, Accelerometers, Pressure sensors and MEMS Devices for telemetry and tele-command applications. Dr. Varaprasad has been awarded Japan Matsumae International Foundation medal in 1987 and Materials Research Society of India MRSI medal in 1990. Other notable contributions of Dr Varaprasad include Piezoelectric SONAR systems for Indian Navy while working at NMRL, Bombay, during 1984-88 ie before moving over to RCI Hyderabad. Dr Varaprasad is retired from Government service in 2012. Since then, he is Director of CIGS (Centre for ISRO GNSS) His current research interests include Space Technology, GPS, India's own GPS i.e.NavIC(Navigation with Indian Constellation) and location information for Internet of Things/ IOT. Dr. Varaprasad is Senior Adivsor to the growing community of Young, enthusiastic, talented and innovative researchers who are involved in making AI Robots for NASA Rover competition, CANSAT workshop, cube-sats, launching model rockets at Engg colleges in India, designing Robots, asteroid mining and Space Colonization. Recent achievements of SDNx include : MOU with BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa and Guest countries) International Forum at New Delhi, “MARS SUMMIT, 21-23 Feb 2017” and CANSAT Workshop at Bangalore, launching model rockets at IIT-BHU, Varanasi and Kurukshetra Universities.
